Sci-Fi Investigates? Or, Dr. Peebles Educates?
By Summer Bacon
Well, we managed to end up on the editing room floor.
What I am referring to is the Sci Fi Investigates episode "Paranormal Hotspots" which aired last night. My friend, UFO Researcher and author, Tom Dongo, was a featured guest on the show. At Tom's urging, Peter, the show's Producer, finally relented and allowed for the investigators, Rich Dolan and Bill Doleman, and skeptic "Boston Rob" to interview me and Dr. Peebles. The interview took place in late July 2006.
The only question asked of Dr. Peebles was, "What makes Sedona so special [spiritual]?" which, as I recall, was asked before I went into trance. Dr. Peebles, in his inimitable style, spoke so fast, and with such precision, that all the investigators could do was stand with their mouths agape. When Dr. Peebles finally took a breath and said, "Do you understand? And, would you have a question or comment?" no one could speak. Dolan and Doleman elbowed the show's host, Boston Rob, but he was speechless. I believe that this was one of those "dead air" moments where the sound effects guy could have inserted the sound of crickets for emphasis. Dr. Peebles, of course, smirked and said, "Cat got your tongue, yah?"
Unfortunately, we don't have a cassette, or even have a transcript of every profound word that Dr. Peebles shared that day. We ended up on the editing room floor, and didn't get even a second of airtime.
Was it because they didn't believe in Dr. Peebles? Hardly! I wish you could have been there to listen to the reactions to those fifteen minutes of channeling. When I came out of trance there was a camera literally inches from my face. The investigators just stared at me, and finally Rob stammered and said, "Uh, I have a question."
"Yes?" I responded from my post-trance fog.
Now, to get the full gist of this experience, you need to close your eyes and visualize Rob. He's a very young (maybe early 30s), handsome-ish, jock-like, nice guy, with an adorably thick Boston accent, and, I'm pretty sure, big brown eyes. He wore a baseball cap backwards on his head, covering his thick brown hair. He leaned forward towards me, and rocked back and forth on his feet, and said, "How do you DO that?"
I busted up laughing. I think I said something like, "In a nutshell?" then proceeded to explain, using my standard, "Well, I'm like a stereo receiver. I tune up my frequency to match that of Spirit, and Spirit lowers their frequency until somewhere in the middle we meet. It's like tuning in to a radio station. Once you find the frequency, the music can then play!"
Bill Doleman was interested in whether or not I'd ever been hooked up to machines to research the physiology of what is happening when I am in trance. I replied that I had not, but was willing to do this. In fact, I'd been asked just last year, by a retired cardiologist, to go to the Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff to have this done, but shortly after the request was made, the man who was interested in doing this … died...of a heart attack.
The questions for me came pouring out, and I answered as clearly and succinctly as I could, realizing that we were on borrowed time, as the production crew was already over budget, and behind schedule. Finally, Peter waved his arms wildly and said, "I'm sorry, but we have to stop!" Had he not intervened, I believe that they would have interviewed me for an hour.
After the cameras were turned off, and everyone was packing up the equipment, I had a chance to talk to Rich and Bill. Bill is an older gentleman, with a very scientific demeanor. I asked him, "So, do you think anything is going on here [with my channeling]?"
He just sighed, and looked me right in the eye and said, "Oh yes. There's a lot going on here, on many different levels. But, you know what struck me the most? There was just so much love in the room."
I thought, "Wow … and that from the mouth of a scientist."
Rich is a really nice guy, and he bounced around on his heels as he asked me question after question. I signed books for anyone who wanted one. Both Rich and Bill assured me that this segment would get definite airtime. Rob thanked me for the book. (He really is a very nice guy. Don't believe what you hear about him being a dummy or having a huge ego. That's a lot of BS.) Peter told me that Dr. Peebles was the highlight of the day. There was a buzz about having me on for a whole one-hour show in the future. Naturally, I was beyond delighted, and very excited at the possibilities. In my mind, I was already giving my acceptance speech at the Emmy's before the day was through.
Silly me.
So, why did we end up on the editing room floor?
My suspicion is, because what I do for a living is weird. It's controversial. There are more charlatans in this line of spiritual work than there are "real deal" Trance Mediums. There are the "all that" channels with huge egos, and people who are convinced that they can make big bucks overnight by doing this work.
I don't doubt that NBC Productions was a bit wary about giving this airtime.
Before I did the show, I was very, very nervous. I told Tom, "It feels more like 'Sci Fi Interrogates' rather than 'Sci Fi Investigates.'" But, Dr. Peebles was quick to chime in, "No, Summer. It's Dr. Peebles (and Summer) EDUCATES." I trusted this.
I stayed up late last night, overjoyed that Tom was given a fairly large amount of airtime. He is one of my favorite people in the whole world, and probably one of the most deserving. However, I admit that I was sad that Dr. Peebles did not get even a second of attention. I wondered…was this just another dangled carrot? (Two years ago I was supposed to be on a 26 episode prime time television show, which for some mysterious reason never happened.) Why is it so hard to get Dr. Peebles the attention that he deserves from the masses? Couldn't the angels have simply tapped an NBC Executive on the head with the suggestion to give us some airtime? What was this all about, after all?
Well, Dr. Peebles made it clear to me that we did educate that day. It wasn't the education of the masses, which is what I had assumed would happen. But, we definitely touched lives that day. One life at a time, touched and changed forever, and in a most positive way.
Last weekend I did a favor for a friend, and channeled for their friend who is very connected to television and radio (I am not free to share the name). This person is another scientist, and fairly skeptical about the whole trance channeling thing. The skepticism didn't last long. Dr. Peebles so touched this man's heart that he was moved to tears. He and Dr. Peebles engaged in a deep conversation about physics, and Dr. Peebles did a physical healing on him too. This man had some very serious physical pain that he was dealing with. After the session, this man bounced around the room, overjoyed at the session, exclaiming that Dr. Peebles had shared information with him that could potentially win him a Nobel Prize! Two days later, he could not stop talking about the fact that his physical pain had significantly diminished, beyond his wildest dreams and imaginations.
While I have struggled to get beyond my disappointment about not getting airtime (and, frankly, I had huge expectations about the possibility of CD and tape sales, and rapid growth of the Institute, had we gotten that airtime to over 10 million people), I have to say that my time spent on Sunday with my friend's friend was time well spent. More important than piquing the interests of the masses regarding Dr. Peebles via a cheesy television show, Dr. Peebles was able to reach one very significant soul who is seriously determined to change the world for the better.
It's spiritual checkpoints like these along the way that keep me humble. I, like anyone else, have to remember the deeper reasons for why I am here on earth, and why I am doing this work. So many times I want to give up, but then I hear about a life that was saved or changed by Dr. Peebles, and I simply can't give up. I am thousands of dollars in debt on behalf of this Institute and this work, and I'm willing to give even more. Am I crazy? Not really. Not unless you count being crazy about God's love, and crazy about helping people. It's my nature, and I guess I can't give up being me.
I know in my heart that I won't be left to die on the vine. I know that I am being guided at every turn. I jump through every hoop that is presented to me, and the beat goes on. I believe that there are hidden surprises that God has in store for me and this work. I've already seen some of them. And, I am grateful that my heart is kept pure by these tests along the way.
Sci Fi investigates? Or, Dr. Peebles educates? I'll take the education, thank you very much. It is a privilege. I thank all of you for being a part of this work as well. Your stories about your experiences, and your testimonials are spiritual manna for my soul. You keep me going in this work. For this I am thankful this Thanksgiving.
God bless you, and may your life be forever filled with the abundance of His Love.
