Slow-dona
Hey, Sedona, Arizona didn't get the nickname Slow-dona for nothin'! But, if you're coming here to visit, then realize that's what it's all about: slowing down and meandering at a relaxing and gentle pace, like the beautiful oak creek that runs through this gorgeous red rock country. Sedona is all about clean air, friendly people, and plenty of sights to see. The red rocks, pinion forests, and classic desert landscape, framed by a backdrop of billowing white clouds, and beautiful blue skies often dotted with hot air balloons, offer incredible photo opportunities year round. Nature lovers and fitness buffs will find dozens of hiking and mountain biking trails. And, people seeking spiritual adventures will find plenty of enticing energy vortexes, medicine wheels, healers, psychics, and metaphysical gift shops. |
Weather? We've got it! But, to steal a phrase often used in Oklahoma: "If you don't like the weather in Sedona, wait an hour or two." It's ever-changing! Gorgeous rainbows drape themselves over majestic mesas during our fabulous summertime monsoon season. Temporary mini-waterfalls cascade off of the red rocks as the occasional light snowfall melts in the morning winter sun. And, Sedona wears a coat of many colors in autumn and spring time, as the oak trees lining the creek change color, and wildflowers burst forth from the desert landscape and vast array of cacti. As my friend, author Don Pendleton, once wrote while living in Sedona, "Sedona is the lap of God." I couldn't agree more.
Good eats in Sedona. Yum!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to cook, eat and drink!
Sedona has an incredible selection of restaurants to fit any budget ranging from the high-end L'auberge (which actually has a very reasonably priced lunch menu: to be enjoyed on their patio by the creek...absolute heave!) to the less expensive, but delicious, with breakfast served all day, Cafe Jose.
THAT'S AMORE!
Although there's not many foods that I don't like (such as liver and onions), sometimes I swear I must have been Italian in my past life, since one of my all-time favorite places to eat is A Pizza Heaven which offers flat-out delicious pizza, incredibly scrumptious crusty bread, and a wide array of the freshest salads on the planet, and pasta choices that are simply fantastico. When weather permits, they have outdoor dining on an enclosed patio. I would say that this is a mid-priced restaurant, a touch more than I want to spend to fill my tummy, but worth every penny for every delicious bite.
THAI ONE ON
When nothing will do but the sweet, spicy flavor of Coconut Lemongrass Soup, and a side order of pot stickers, I'm there with my frequent diners card at The Thai Palace in Uptown Sedona. This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant has so much personality. I sat there with my boyfriend watching the snow fall outside one day, as I slurped my soup and sipped my hot jasmine tea. A beautiful fire gently warmed the small room, and I swear I could have stayed there all day. Soooo romantic! And, the food is absolutely delicious. The lunch specials offer a lot of food at a reasonable price. (Try the Pad Thai!) The service is great: nice people, with good attitudes.
EGGS-ACTLY THE OMELETTE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR
Coffee Pot Restaurant is a Sedona classic. I particularly enjoy Coffee Pot Restaurant for breakfast. Although they pride themselves on their 200+ selection of omelettes, I'm a big fan of the super yummy Huevos Rancheros (eggs over medium please), especially when I eat it out on their backyard patio, listening to the birds chirping, and watching the weather go by. Get there early, though. I've never been there when there wasn't a wait (well worth it, however). Browse their adorable gift shop while waiting. It's filled with fun stuff you can bring home to the kids and grandma.
What to do when you get here.
Well...ahem...AFTER you have enjoyed an Open Session with Dr. Peebles and yours truly, Summer Bacon, there's lots to do in Sedona! If you're driving up from the Phoenix area or down from Flagstaff or Prescott, I recommend making a day of it. Coffee with the gang at the Open Session, and then delicious dining at one of our many wonderful restaurants. Love to shop 'til you drop? There's Tlaquepaque, a quaint Spanish style open air shopping center located next to Los Abrigados resort. Look for Robin Miller playing his beautiful, soothing new age music. If the sun is shining even a teensy bit, you'll find Robin there seven days a week. He's also probably one of the greatest past-life regression therapists on the planet. Tell him Summer sent you!
I'll be filling in this section with more specific information about options for Sedona fun, as I get permission from the various powers that be. But for starters, Sedona is the place for physical recreation, with hiking trails galore, bike rentals, the beautiful oak creek for splashing around, and a fun walk in Uptown Sedona (89A towards Flagstaff) doing some shopping.
Also, look for the Sedona Film Festival, hot air balloon and helicopter rides (starting at the airport mesa), jeep tours, massages, psychic readings, vortex tours, medicine wheels, healers, a visit to the beautiful non-denominational Chapel, and so much more!
