On Making Changes
Excerpt from September 2006 Open Session
Dr. Peebles through Summer Bacon
Question: I feel like it’s all falling apart, and people around me are telling me just the opposite.
Dr. Peebles: Yes, but you know that’s nothing new. It really isn’t.
In what way do you, think it’s falling apart. We don’t agree here, but then that’s us.
Response: Inside, I’m not feeling good. I’m not feeling good outside about doing…making changes as you said earlier. I’m changing my thinking. I’m changing my income. I’m changing my relationships all at once and I’m not sure I’m doing the right thing most of the time.
Dr. Peebles: My dear you are, and as we say here, you are skipping across stones with alligators nipping at your heels. So who are the alligators? The ones who tell you, you are crazy! “What are you thinking? How could do this?” It’s rather ridiculous, as far as we are concerned, someone coming up to you saying, “I dare you think of yourself first! How dare you try to fill up your cup now,” you see? What you are doing is you’re filling up your cup, so we support you. And, what you’re doing is not easy, but we support you anyway, because it’s important to you. You just simply need now to understand that it’s all right: that indeed you are changing everything in your life, and your great desire is to be with others of like mind and like heart. Eventually you will find that there are people gathered around you who do respect and honor you for you; who will not tell you that you are crazy or without hope.
