The World is my parish.
Truth, my authority.
—Dr. Peebles
A Message from Summer Bacon
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Dr. Peebles is that he actually lived on the earth from 1822 until 1922, and died just short of his 100th birthday. He showed up at his own memorial service, speaking through the medium Dr. Guy Bogart, who was a personal friend of Dr. Peebles.
The beauty of this is that we have actual photos of him, books that he wrote, and biographical information about his life on earth.
“There is no rheumatism in heaven!” he proclaimed, having suffered from the painful affliction late in his life.
Although, in spirit, he has mostly been reticent about talking about his life on earth (because, as he now resides in spirit, he has no attachment to his earth life, and “what’s past is past”), over the years I’ve encouraged him to speak out a bit more about his life, because I think it’s wonderful to hear that the learning never ends, even when you are an enlightened being. It helps us, as humans, to hear about his background and what he learned as he lived the human life, and what he has learned (and continues to learn) in the afterlife. As he says, “When you are enlightened, what are you going to do next?”
Let me preface this next part by clearly stating that, when I first started channeling Dr. Peebles, I had never read about his life, and never read the books that are listed on this page. I only knew of him as a beautiful and inspiring spirit who spoke through Trance Medium, Thomas Jacobson. I have since scanned a few of his earthly writings, and over the years people have sent me copies of photos and images that they have found on the internet.
In my early days of channeling Dr. Peebles (who was a world traveler when on earth) he spoke at length about the time he spent in Ireland. He also spoke about his time spent in China where he met what he called “trickster spirits,” and how he lived with the Aborigenes. He spoke about ministering to people on the ships he took to cross the ocean, and how he would go into the bowels of the ships where the poor, hungry, and ill passengers were kept, so that he could help and heal them. He spoke of his wife, and his children, and his especial sadness at the early passing of one of his children. He spoke about being one of the people who started the Kellogg’s cereal company, and how he was ousted from the company before it actually started, because of his distain of adding sugar to perfectly wholesome whole grain cereals.
As a young trance medium, I was concerned and skeptical about these things that he shared. Especially the part about the Kellogg’s company. I had begun channeling before the internet was a common resource for information, and so the verification of these bits and pieces of his history came through snail mail letters from clients and friends who did the research. One of these people was my friend, Linda Pendleton, the co-author (with her husband, Don Pendleton) of the wildly popular book, To Dance with Angels, which was about the great Trance Medium, Thomas Jacobson, who channeled Dr. Peebles in the late 1970s and into the 1980s. I received a feverishly excited letter from her validating his world travels, with excerpts from his biography that other books that verified the information that he shared through me. And, then I received a phone call from a couple who watched a documentary about the Kellogg’s company (which I believe was on the History Channel) and they saw a small segment about Dr. Peebles (complete with a photo of him) and how he was ousted from the company. I watched the documentary the next time it aired, much to my delight!
About 10 years later, a man came up to me before one of my public Open Sessions in Sedona, Arizona, and he handed me a small card that was an advertisement about a home remedy that Dr. Peebles had offered (in his notoriously generous nature) for free. I asked the man where it came from, and he said he woke up that morning, opened his Bible, and the ad fell out. He had heard of me and my channeling in the Sedona Red Rock News, and said he heard a voice tell him to bring the ad to me. The gentleman did not stay for the Open Session, and mysteriously vanished.
Dr. Peebles has often said he was “a bit of a stuffed shirt” when he was on the earth, and was highly opinionated about such issues as not eating animal flesh, how vaccinations were a menace to society, and (he admitted through me that this one was ridiculous) that snoring was unnecessary.
He was also a tremendously compassionate man, giving freely of his time and energy to help those in need. He performed surgeries during the Civil War, and was extremely active in the anti-slavery, temperance, and women’s suffrage movements. He was a member of the American Indian Peace Commission, a delegate to several international peace conferences, and was appointed by President Grant to serve as Consul to Turkey in 1869. The author of many books are articles, he often gave the rights to these books away to his publisher, accepting no payment, but instead requesting that they be freely distributed to anyone who was interested in reading them. Ultimately, in the 19th century, Dr. Peebles (who was also a trance medium) became a leader in the worldwide spiritualist movement.
He died in Los Angeles, where over 100,000 people attended his memorial.
On this page, I share some of the photos, books, and news clippings that I have collected through the years. It’s not very many, but it is a wonderful glimpse into the life of this man who entered his enlightenment when he left his body in 1922, and went on to share his ever-evolving wisdom from the angelic realm with the beautiful humans on the school called planet Earth that he left behind; encouraging us always to live our lives authentically and, above all, with love.
As he wrote during his life on earth:
Speak thy thought if thou believ’st it;
Let it jostle whom it may;
E’en though the unwise scorn it,
Or the obstinate gainsay;
Every seed that grows tomorrow
Lies beneath a clod today.
If our sires (the noble hearted
Pioneers of things to come),
Had like some been weak and timid,
Traitors to themselves, and dumb.
Where would be our present knowledge?
Where the hoped Millennium?
