Ricky and I had just gone for another one of our beautiful morning walks in Sedona. Forecast: Sunny, 57 degrees.
Our walk was cut short after just half a block, both of us shivering.
“F-f-feels like…” Ricky started to say through chattering teeth.
“Ff-forty-three degrees,” I chimed in, finishing his thought. We couldn’t get into my car fast enough.
We were soon sharing hot coffee and engaging in our usual lively morning conversation while enjoying the beautiful Sedona views from inside my car. We giggled about how weather apps show the actual temperature as well as a “feels like” temperature, which we had clearly ignored.
“I wonder how they figure out what it feels like?” I said.
“Probably some guy standing outside shivering and saying, ‘Feels like…’” Ricky said kidding, “Can you imagine having that job?” We laughed. Feels like…heaven when we laugh.
“That would be a great title for your next newsletter article!” Ricky said excitedly.
“What’s that?”
“Feels like…” he said, folding his hands and giving me that look with his intensely beautiful brown/blue/green/etc eyes, patiently waiting for me to awaken in understanding of his words.
“Feels like…” I said slowly, pondering what he meant.
I reflected upon our morning chats, and how Ricky and I agreed on many topics, and agreed to disagree when necessary. He was very well read, and able to retain and share facts, names, and volumes of historical information at lightening speed. He could talk about anything from the creation of the earth, to the works of great philosophers like Plato and Alan Watts, to the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the fascinating and sordid history of the Christian church, climate change, music history and instruments, and more.
I thought about the 30 years in which I consciously chose not to read any books (except for a few biographies and some romance novels), listen to news, or read newspapers so as not to create any filters or biases that might influence the information that Dr. Peebles shared through me.
“I live by feeling,” I had said to Ricky on many occasions. “As a mystic, I get all of my answers about what to do next through a feeling of yes or no, and I’ve learned to follow those those yes or no feelings. Heart, teach my mind.”
Forecast: Ricky will share with intensity one fascinating fact and revelation after another.
Feels like: His passion for finding truth in his own way is mesmerizing to me.
Warm now, I smile in wonder as something beautiful stirs in my heart. Yes.
Feels like…
